Arco Renaissance: Green Revitalization and Expansion Efforts

Return to experience again the renowned Arco Città Giardino, which reached its peak at the end of the last century, during the Kurort period. A “return to origins” pursued through the enhancement of municipal gardens and the renewal and expansion of the green areas of Arco as a tourist destination.

Revitalization and expansion of green zones

However, the benefits are not limited to the city center: the outskirts also benefit, with the eleven hamlets composing the municipality gradually developing parks and gardens primarily for the local population. Yet, this has a broader “overall effect” that goes beyond the boundaries of individual villages. And it’s not finished, because much work remains to refresh the sunny, flowering image that has made the city of palms famous.

Signs of transformation and care for green areas

The signs of transformation are evident to all, not only thanks to the public gardens, where the municipality’s green thumbs achieve truly admirable results. “All green areas have improved. The flowerbeds bloom from late winter through mid-autumn because we use various plant species wisely,” explains head gardener Claudio Matteotti.

Furthermore, we take advantage of favorable climatic conditions by focusing on Mediterranean varieties. Thanks to collaboration with other gardening centers in the region and Northern Europe, and in exhibitions such as “Arcoinfiore,” we create flowerbeds and other floral arrangements in the historic center. People appreciate them so much that they urge us to keep them longer, but for now, that is not feasible.

The green heritage and initiatives of the gardens

It is worth recalling that the Città Giardino also includes the “Costa” of the Castello and that jewel, the Arboreto, which was renewed with the support of the Provincia. The work of the gardening services extends to the hamlets as well.

Creation of parks and personnel management

“We are creating parks in all the suburbs. Maintaining them is not easy,” adds Fabrizio Miori, the Environment Councilor. “The effort of our eight employees is considerable, so we have delegated the rougher tasks, such as grass cutting and pruning, to cooperatives.

We also have seasonal workers from “Azione 12,” and starting this summer, we also have two interns from the Scuola di floricoltura dell’Enaip di Bruttagosto. In fact, we hope to transfer the gardening headquarters to Bruttagosto, as the current location is very impractical.”
