Puegnago Celebrates Beato don Giuseppe Baldo Ahead of 25th Fair Opening
Puegnago takes stock of the celebrations for the Beato don Giuseppe Baldo and looks forward to the upcoming fair (scheduled to debut on August 31). It is a double commitment for the Municipality and also for the parish, which jointly vowed to honor the memory of this man of God, this priest-farmer who ascended to the glory of the altars, safeguarding within himself the values of that popular culture rooted in his heritage.
An extraordinary witness spanning two centuries, a free and courageous man, a voice outside the chorus. On this occasion, the Council changed the naming of the square to “Beato don Giuseppe Baldo.” The local population experienced days of great devotion.
The mayor Gianfranco Comincioli described him as a “strong and generous figure in social, political, and spiritual commitment, supported with willpower and dynamism in aid of the weakest.” Moments of particular emotion were shared by the nuns of Puegnago, belonging precisely to the Congregation of the “Piccole figlie di San Giuseppe,” founded by don Baldo himself in 1894.
All the residents of Puegnago demonstrated their big hearts, affection, and devotion for such a beloved fellow citizen. The visit of auxiliary bishop mons. Andrea Veggio made the days dedicated to the Beato even more solemn. Don Baldo lived his mission and his apostleship as an art form.
His ability to look beyond life was grounded in faith and hope; his words were lofty, shouted, charged with charity. Words outside and beyond time, but rooted in common people. An unmistakable word, capable of quenching the thirst for truth, imbued with love and pain that points to the essential values of man.
Puegnago Fair and Public Opening
On this path, the Beato built his life of “Christian heroism.” After the sacred ceremonies, everything is now ready in the Valtenese village for the 25th edition of the Puegnago Fair, a traditional showcase of agriculture and craftsmanship from the Valtenese region and the Riviera, scheduled from August 31 to September 3.
The inauguration ceremony will take place on Sunday, September 2, at 9:30 a.m. in the square dedicated to Beato don Baldo. Wines and oil will be in the spotlight, in anticipation of the classic Garda Tartugo Market Exhibition, which will close the Puegnago season.
