Puegnago Names Streets After Brescia Leaders Boni and Bonomi
Two streets in Raffa di Puegnago will be dedicated to two prominent figures in Brescia’s administrative history, Bruno Boni and Paolo Bonomi. During the fair days, the local government intends to name two new roads after two individuals whose contributions are closely linked to the social changes in Puegnago. For the official ceremony, the Municipality of Puegnago has chosen the highlight day of its Fair, which takes place from August 31 to September 3, on Sunday, September 2, the day of the inauguration, when the main provincial authorities who previously held positions occupied by Bruno Boni, along with numerous political representatives, will be present in Puegnago.
On this occasion, Puegnago will also host the current National President of the Associazione Paolo Bedoni and all the Presidents of Coldiretti of the Lombardia Region, who will gather for an extraordinary council. The first, as we recall, even if it is obvious, was the Mayor of Brescia for many years, a leading political figure, President of the Provincial Administration, and President of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Handicraft, and Agriculture of the Province.
For the residents of Puegnago, he was primarily the provincial authority who cut the ribbon at the opening of the first fair in September 1977. Paolo Bonomi is also a cornerstone in the history of Italian agriculture: he was the first and longest-serving National President of the Associazione Coltivatori Diretti, elevating the category to a socially significant level and rallying it together to fiercely defend their rights.
“Our most senior farmers, however,” affirms Mayor Gianfranco Comincioli, “remember him especially for creating an institution that changed the lives of farm workers: the mandatory introduction of the Mutual Aid Fund and the pension fund for farmers. Thanks to these innovations, those workers were able to safeguard themselves against serious health risks and today enjoy a pension, modest as it may be, which they consider a blessing.”
His foresight and expertise regarding the evolving social events,” explains Mayor Gianfranco Comincioli, “left an important legacy in the troubled history of Puegnago’s wine sector and, consequently, of all Valtenesi. Recognizing his memory consistently and actively informing the public about his contributions thus becomes a necessary act of respect and gratitude.”
The toponymy of a village reflects its history through the remembrance of notable events and personalities, with institutions taking steps to make these names known and familiar to future generations—names that might otherwise be forgotten or fade into obscurity over time and changing generations.
Thus, the name of a street becomes an ever-open page of history; every day, people see it, pronounce it, and are reminded of what that name signifies and why it was immortalized.
