Lazise Leads Garda Lake Parking: Tolerance Surprises Tourists
On the lake, motorhomes are returning, and Lazise is the reigning host. An investigation into the Garda area parking zones, published in the September issue of the magazine PleinAir, restores the harmony between touring enthusiasts and the lake, which has long been considered off-limits for recreational vehicles.
“Barriers and bans everywhere! They don’t want us? Fine: we won’t set foot there anymore.” The statement by a camper, collected by journalist Luigi Alberto Pucci, was the trigger that led the magazine to conduct a detailed investigation into Garda’s hospitality.
This investigation, while confirming the presence of many restrictions, also highlighted the tolerance of local administrations and how some Municipalities, starting with Lazise, are structuring themselves to adequately respond to a steadily growing tourism segment.
Results of the investigation and observations on tolerance
“We circumnavigated the lake,” explain Pucci and photographer Ivana Ricci, “stopping in virtually all the main tourist towns to verify the situation: which is not as dire as one might think,” they state.
“The barriers at parking lots, with heights ranging from 190 to 250 centimeters, are not everywhere. Restrictions are more numerous, sometimes repeated in a hysterical manner, creating absurd overlaps and inconsistencies.”
“But despite all this rigidity, we noticed a surprising level of tolerance: rarely, if ever, did a police officer come to challenge us or others for an infraction. And this was during the peak season.”
