Rice Fair 2023 Highlights: Risotto Records, Competitions & Events

Last weekend of the Rice Fair

The Rice Fair has reached a new record: 160,000 risottos prepared as of Thursday evening, an increase of 17,000 compared to the same days last year.

Until tomorrow, the pavilions of Prà Piganzo will be open at noon and in the evening for tastings of various types of risottos, including the famous isolana risotto. On Thursday, the final of the many gastronomic competitions related to Vialone Nano Veronese Igp took place.

Gastronomic contests and awards

Eight hotel management institutes from across Italy competed in the kitchen for the «Conoscere il Riso» contest. The winners were the Carnacina hospitality institute of Bardolino with the dish «Pumpkin risotto fragrant with lemon and cinnamon with Baldo truffle in cheese crust» (prepared by students Alessandro Zantedeschi and Luca Tommasi), and jointly awarded was the Minuto institute of Marina di Massa with «Porcini mushroom risotto with pepitella and stewed roe deer bites», prepared by Andrea Bassi and Lisa Serafini.

This evening, the Scuola di musica d’arte and the Cenacolo di poesia dialettale di Verona will present an evening of music and poetry at 8:30 p.m. at the former friars’ church.

Events for tomorrow

At 9 p.m., a fashion show at the teatro tenda. Tomorrow’s events include: a cycling rally (at 9 a.m., at Birreria La Torre); a children’s market (at 2 p.m., via Battisti); a demonstration of traditional threshing and rice milling (at 4 p.m., piazza Martiri); a theatrical performance of La Scintilla «Mary Poppins» (at 5 p.m., teatro tenda); a jazz concert (at 8:30 p.m., piazza Martiri); a dance school performance from Tarmassia (at 8:30 p.m., teatro tenda); a concert by the «Fantoni» band (at 9 p.m., teatro tenda), and a fireworks display closing the event at 11:30 p.m. at Prà Piganzo.
