Over 350 Chess Players from 30 Nations at Arco International Festival
Starting today and for the next couple of weeks, over 350 competitors from about thirty nations will compete in Arco in chess. On the agenda are the 11th Senior Open World Championship (reserved for women over 50 and male colleagues over 60) and the 23rd edition of the International Chess Festival.
Among the participants, the Afghans will be absent due to the current crisis. A few Brazilians are also missing, while the reigning world champions in their categories, Russians Oleg Chernicov and Elena Fatalibekova, will be present. The legendary American champion Fisher, who is only 59 years old, will not be competing.
_Events and Organization
The matches are scheduled daily, from 2 PM onward, in the hall of the Casinò di Arco. An exciting highlight is also planned: a simultaneous exhibition where one champion will face 40 players at the same time.
The countries of origin for the chess players are not only European (including Latvia, Lithuania, and Russia) but also Israel, Georgia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Australia, the United States, and Brazil.
Philatelic Services and Side Activities
As part of the organization, philatelists will have their opportunity: on October 27th, a postal cancellation office will operate at the casino to cancel the official postcard documenting the chess world championship.
