Bardolino Novello 2001: Premium Italian Sun and Moon Wine Tasting
Novello represents an autumnal first fruit of «sun and moon». At yesterday’s release, the Novello 2001 appeared in dazzling form: elegant in ruby color, inviting with a fruity aroma of raspberry, strawberry, and morello cherry, as well as enticing with its salty, fresh, and delicately velvety flavor.
Moreover, it came with a business card — a guarantee of over one and a half million bottles produced by 26 companies under the Doc del sole e della luna label. The stars guiding the ripening of the grapes and the development of the wine symbolize a territory with a Mediterranean climate spanning 16 municipalities around Garda and its hinterland.
Characteristics of Bardolino Novello
A Bardolino Novello with various flavor nuances resulting from the exposure of the vineyard soils, technological choices, and the personal preferences of producers. Consequently, capturing the harmonious identities of each individual winery is undoubtedly an added pleasure of tasting this «nouveau».
The product originates from the processing of the best Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara, and Negrara grapes, harvested intact and sealed hermetically in fermentation vessels to contain the carbonic maceration process.
“This wine is produced using a technology,” states Giulio Liut, director of the Consorzio tutela, “that enhances the enzymatic and biological activity contained within the berries while simultaneously eliminating the harsh taste typical of young wines.”
Therefore, enological practices used are not aimed at «recreating» a new wine but rather at enhancing the varietal characteristics of Bardolino based on the vine-environment relationship, employing particular pedoclimatic conditions, traditional viticulture, and winemaking techniques.
A Novello Bardolino, thus, is a versatile wine that expresses its best within the first six months, thanks to its characteristics of freshness and aroma.
It is a wine that can accompany an entire meal, pairing well with antipasti, starters, and main courses alike. It is well-loved by those who appreciate fresh wines for immediate drinking.
It should be served at a temperature of 14°-15°C and consumed while fresh by the spring following the year of production.
In Italy, the production of Novello wine is steadily increasing: this year, around 19 million bottles will come from wineries, representing a 7.1 percent increase compared to last year’s output.
The Veneto region, with 6 million bottles, is the largest producer, followed by Tuscany with three million three hundred thousand bottles, as well as Trentino and Emilia-Romagna.
The significant growth is in the South and Islands (7.5%), with Sardinia remaining the leading region, producing over one million bottles.
