Giovanni Franzoni Claims Downhill Victory on Streif Ahead of Olympics

Giovanni Franzoni Kitzbühel won the downhill race on the Streif course, following a 12th place finish in Wengen’s Super-G. He finished 7 cents ahead of Swiss skier Marco Odermatt and was joined on the podium by French skier Maxence Muzaton.

The victory comes less than two weeks before the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympics. Franzoni, who previously dominated at the junior level, recovered from a serious injury in January 2023 and a challenging season, also coping with the recent death of teammate Matteo Franzoso in a training accident in Chile. His recent results mark a significant comeback.
