Garda Scammers Impersonate Police for Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when telephoning hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the middle and upper Garda area, proposing subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

The scammers often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be alert and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after collecting the money, disappears.
