Carabinieri Impersonators Scamming Hoteliers and Shopkeepers in Garda
They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to military magazines.
These are not members of the military, but criminals who occasionally claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.
How to recognize scams and how to respond
They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to the law enforcement.
Therefore, be careful and immediately notify the real Carabinieri – just dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,
after receiving the money, disappear and cease contact.
