Garda Area Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Local Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines affiliated with the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial police, police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

Recognizing scams

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those unrelated to the law enforcement.

Therefore, be alert and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have fallen victim to someone who,

asking for money, disappears without a trace.
