Scammers Pose as Police to Target Garda Business Owners

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hotel owners, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

They are not actual military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be part of the finance police, the regular police, firefighters, or municipal police (Vigili del Comune).

How to recognize scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately inform the real Carabinieri — by dialing 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

would seek money and then disappear.
