Garda Fraud Alert: Scammers Impersonate Authorities to Target Business Owners

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to army-associated magazines.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, fire brigades, or the Municipal police.

Recognizing scams

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately alert the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

wants money, and then disappears.
