Garda-area Fraudsters Pose as Police in Fake Magazine Scams

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to the force’s magazines.

These individuals are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, police, fire brigade, or Municipal police.

Recognizing the scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that bear no relation to the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
