Garda Scammers Pose as Police in Telephone Fraud Attacks

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering magazine subscriptions from the force.

These individuals are not soldiers, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or magazines unrelated to the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri—simply dial 112— as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, if they have taken money, disappear afterwards.
