Scammers Pose as Police to Trick Garda Hoteliers and Shops

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to the army‘s magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipality police.

How to recognize scams

They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to the law enforcement.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, if money has changed hands, will no longer appear.
