Garda Fraudsters Impersonate Carabinieri to Scam Hoteliers and Shops

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda, offering magazine subscriptions from the force.

These are not military personnel but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines unrelated to the law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri—simply dial 112—whenever you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,

after obtaining money, disappear without a trace.
