Restocking of Coregonus Boosts Biodiversity and Fishing on Lake Garda
Lombardy has restocked Lake Garda and Lake Iseo with nearly 33 million coregonus larvae, marking a significant environmental and economic effort. The initiative involved collaboration between regional authorities, professional fishermen, technical experts, and provincial police, after a five-year suspension of the program.
Regional Councilor Claudia Carzeri highlighted the importance of the species for lake ecosystems and local economies, emphasizing that recent regulatory changes allowed resumption of stocking efforts. The initiative aims to enhance biodiversity and support communities dependent on lake fishing and tourism.
