Verona’s 2027 Volunteer Capital Designation in Jeopardy Amid Local Nonprofit Network
Verona has been named the Italian Volunteer City for 2027 in the selection for the Italian Capital of Volunteerism 2027, with Napoli and Perugia also participating. The proposals were evaluated by a commission comprising representatives from CSVnet’s board, the president of CSV Modena, and delegates from the Forum del Terzo Settore and Caritas Italiana.
Verona’s bid sits in a region with a broad non-profit presence: as of March 2026 in the province there were about 500 volunteer organizations registered in the National Register of the Third Sector, nearly 950 social promotion associations, and over 6,200 active non-profit entities, with around 85,000 volunteers. Promoters and participants include CSV Verona president Roberto Veronese, mayor Damiano Tommasi, Monsignor Domenico Pompili, Don Matteo Malosto, spokesperson Tiziana Boggian, and Bruno Giordano Foundation president Bruno Giordano, who announced the launch of an operational plan for 2027 based on networks among non-profits, institutions, schools, universities, philanthropy, and the business sector.
