German Tourism Board in Sirmione to Promote Sustainable Tourism

The Tourism Commission of the Lower Saxony Parliament held a meeting in Sirmione, at the Grand Hotel Terme, with Garda-area representatives to discuss sustainable tourism, climate adaptation, flow management, soft mobility, and staff shortages. The German delegation, made up of 14 MPs and led by Axel Miesner, identified Sirmione alongside Venice and the South Tyrol as exemplar Italian destinations. The 90-minute session was attended by Garda Unico president Stefania Lorenzoni, director Gianluca Ginepro, Mayor Luisa Lavelli, and Tourism Councillor Riccardo Genovesi.

During the meeting, participants outlined local strategies on tourist flows, residents’ quality of life, climate change, integrated mobility and cycling networks, staff shortages, and the gentrification of historic centers. Lorenzoni described the gathering as “very useful and constructive,” while Lavelli presented the project “Sirmione 2030 – Ospitare Meglio, Vivere Meglio.” The parties agreed to maintain a stable channel of communication between Garda Unico and the Tourism Commission to continue exchanging experiences and projects on sustainable and resilient tourism.
