GardaStorie to Host Second Session on the Italian Social Republic in Salò
GardaStorie’s second meeting, titled “From Empire to Province: the Italian Social Republic,” will feature Giovanni Sciola as speaker on Tuesday, May 12 at 8:30 PM in the Sala dei Provveditori, Salò. The event, organized by ASAR in collaboration with the Università Cattolica di Brescia and supported by the municipalities of Salò, Gardone Riviera, Toscolano Maderno, Gargnano, Tignale, Tremosine and Limone, will trace the historical arc from the ephemeral colonial empire (May 1936) to the May 1941 collapse and the experience of the Italian Social Republic (1943–1945). Entrance is free.
Sciola, formerly director of Brescia’s Fondazione Micheletti, is an author of about twenty publications on contemporary history and was named a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic in 2017; his career includes research, teaching and cultural promotion in Italy and abroad. The series continues on Tuesday, May 19 in Gardone Riviera with Rolando Anni; May 26 in Toscolano Maderno with Claudia Baldoli; June 9 in Gargnano with Giovanni Spinelli; June 16 in Tignale with Sonia Residori; and June 23 at the MusT in Tremosine with Maria Paola Pasini. All evenings begin at 8:30 PM and are free to attend.
