Toscolano Maderno Launches Lakebed Cleanup and Underwater Photo Contest
The underwater cleanup and a concurrent underwater photography contest will take place at the northern end of the Toscolano Maderno gulf, with organizational base at the piazzale along the lakefront of the former “Muretto” restaurant. Registrations, photo selection, club gazebos, and the deposit of recovered material will be organized there; clubs involved include DNA Mantovano led by Giancarlo Bonazzoli, Sommozzatori Bresciani Leonessa with Astore Santoro, Tritone Sub of Desenzano with Raffaella Sacchi, and the Benaco Guardians ecological group led by Marylou Nesi, with about 40–50 divers in the water and around twenty volunteers on land.
The photographers will be the first in the water, followed about 30 minutes later by the cleanup volunteers after an operational briefing chaired by Angelo Modina, with participation from Bonazzoli and safety guidance from Santoro. Dives must respect a 10-meter depth limit, stay within the mooring buoys, and use lifting balloons for heavy loads; a designated navigation zone will be monitored by a support boat and, if necessary, the Coast Guard. After the dives, the selected photos will be printed and exhibited in the Zona dell’Ancora thanks to Caldana Europe Travel; the jury, chaired by Vittorio Gabriotti and with Roberto Prudentino, will select the winners. The award ceremony is scheduled for 21:00 in the presence of Mayor Chiara Chimini, with local product baskets awarded, and the event is promoted by the Comune di Toscolano Maderno and supported by Roda Spa and Marina di Bogliaco.
