Gasparo da Salò Revived in Salò and Brescia with Exhibitions and Historical Research

Gasparo da Salò (Gasparo Bertolotti) is back in the local spotlight after Gardapost published the piece “Happy Birthday Gasparo da Salò” and MuSa displayed a double bass attributed to the luthier, with events taking place between Salò and Brescia and involving local newsrooms and the city museum.

Historical references anchor the profile: in the 1940s Anton Maria Mucchi fixed Bertolotti’s birth date through archival research. The Enciclopedia Bresciana by Antonio Fappani summarizes his life and work, noting a move to Brescia in 1562, a workshop with Gerolamo Virchi, instrument production and export (using exotic woods and minugia strings), the presence of Giovan Paolo Maggini and Jacopo Lanfranchi in the workshop, his death in 1609 and burial in the church of S. Giuseppe, and a bust of Gasparo by Angelo Zanelli kept in Salò’s council chamber.
