Contemporary Nepal Photo Exhibition at Rocca di Lonato del Garda
From June 11 to August 30, 2026, the Rocca di Lonato del Garda will host “In the Forest, in the Villages. Unexpected Nepal,” a photography exhibition curated by Filippo Maggia and selected by Italy’s Ministry of Culture under STRATEGIA FOTOGRAFIA 2025. The show brings together over 50 photographs by three contemporary Nepali photographers—Uma Bista, Sagar Chhetri, and Kishor Sharma—exploring social, cultural, and political change in Nepal today through a critical, plural lens.
Developed in Kathmandu through ongoing dialogue between curator and artists, the project is accompanied by a catalog from Silvana Editoriale. Each photographer contributes a distinct perspective: Bista on gender dynamics in rural and indigenous communities (Our Songs from the Forest); Chhetri on political and identity tensions of indigenous groups (Eclipse); and Sharma on the nomadic Raute community (Living in the Mist). The exhibition takes place in the Sala del Capitano at Rocca di Lonato, a site that also features the new Padiglione Eventi; admission is €6.
