Desenzano Restaurant Robbery: 27-Year-Old Moroccan Man Arrested After Scuffle and Getaway
A 27-year-old Moroccan national, homeless and with prior criminal convictions, was arrested last night for aggravated robbery at a Desenzano del Garda restaurant on the lakeside, after the owner alerted police following CCTV footage showing the man rifling the cash register; the incident sparked moments of tension on the Desenzano lakeside promenade.
When officers arrived, medical staff were treating the suspect for a head injury at Spedali Civili. Video showed him taking phones and cash and hiding them in a marsupio, while a broken rear window with blood traces was found at the back of the premises. After being discharged from the hospital, he was brought to the Questura and formally arrested for aggravated robbery; the police seized the marsupio and returned the loot to the owner. Questore Paolo Sartori announced that the asylum status would be revoked to start deportation proceedings.
