Emilia Salvatore and Pietro Rizzi Win Silver at 29er Worlds in Kiel

Emilia Salvatore and Pietro Rizzi of Canottieri Garda Salò won the silver medal in the mixed category at the 29er World Championships in Kiel‑Schilksee, Germany, on Thursday, July 9. The Italian duo had been dominant in all national 29er races and arrived at the event trained by Chicco Fonda, consistently finishing among the top boats in the Gold Fleet.

However, a penalty for an early start (BFD) during the Finals affected their overall score, dropping them to 12th place in the overall standings. The regatta, organized by the Kieler Yacht‑Club from July 2 to 9, featured a record fleet of 276 teams (552 sailors) from 35 nations, sailing in winds above 20 knots and choppy seas; in the mixed category, they were beaten only by the United States’ Julia Sitzmann and Anton Schmid, while the Open world title went to France’s Alexandre Mostini and Raphaël Allain.
