Lazise Marks 90th Edition of the Greased-Pole Festival With Races and Waterfront Shows

The “Palo della Cuccagna” and the “Gara del Palo della Cuccagna” return to Lazise for the 90th edition on Saturday, 18 July, at Porto Vecchio. Four teams—Porta San Zeno, Porta del Lion, Porta Cansignorio and Boca del Porto—will compete on a greased horizontal pole: contestants must run barefoot on the soap-coated pole and then jump into the water while holding a flag to win the prize. The event will start with check-in at 20:00, with the race beginning at 21:00.

The wider programme opens on Thursday, 16 July, with the traditional parade of the greased pole from 20:00 to 22:00, departing from Viale Roma and arriving at Porto Vecchio. On Friday, 17 July, Funky Town will perform at 21:00 at the Rotonda Riviera on Lungolago Marconi. On Saturday, 18 July, the parade starts at 20:30 with the Gruppo Tamburi Alpini Pacego, followed by awards at 22:30 and drone show “Lazise: Queen of the Lake” at 22:45, also on Lungolago Marconi. The festival concludes on Sunday, 19 July, with a 21:00 concert by the Kriss Groove Band at the Rotonda Riviera.
