Youth Climbing World Championships: Arco Skips Awards in Solidarity With Palestine
The Arco municipal council (Giunta comunale di Arco) says it will not take part in the award ceremonies of the Youth Climbing World Championships after an international campaign by Climbers for Palestine called for the exclusion of the Israeli federation.
In a statement, the council clarified that it attended the opening ceremony and welcomed all delegations and athletes during the competition. It said the decision is intended to express solidarity with Palestine rather than target athletes, citing what it describes as serious human rights violations and noting that, according to its wording, more than 20,000 children and young people have died during the conflict, referencing documentation by international bodies.
