Coast Guard Sets Up Lake Safety Info Points in Salò

The Coast Guard is continuing its “Sea and Safe Lakes” awareness campaign on water safety with information points set up across Lake Garda and other major lakes throughout the summer. Coordinated by the Coast Guard’s Lakes Operational Unit in Milan, the stands are being hosted in key lakeside towns on Lake Garda as well as on Lake Como and Lake Maggiore, with the 1st Coast Guard Unit overseeing the Salò stop.

The information points, arranged in collaboration with local municipalities, distribute brochures and explanatory panels in Italian, English and German, covering practical rules such as checking weather forecasts before going into the water, respecting designated bathing areas, avoiding dives from piers and rocks, not using inflatable devices in windy conditions, wearing a life jacket during boating activities, and keeping a smartphone in a waterproof pouch with data traffic enabled to share location with the Operations Room. In emergencies, the campaign urges people to call 112; the initiative follows an agreement signed by the Maritime Directorate of Liguria with the Garda Community, the Lombardy and Veneto regions, and the autonomous province of Trento, and will continue in major lakeside towns for the summer season.
