Storm Damage Mounts in Gardone Riviera After Downpour, Crane Collapse
A violent downpour hit the Gardone Riviera area early Friday, and local police say traffic on the Gardesana route remains under monitoring. From Monday to Tuesday, a daily alternating one-way system will be in place near Torre San Marco on state road 45 bis (Gardesana Occidentale), from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with marshals directing traffic to allow safety work on damaged and hazardous trees.
Work also continues after Friday’s crane collapse, which struck the roadway and damaged two buildings in Gardone Riviera. The mayor issued four orders declaring certain areas uninhabitable, including the Church of the Natività di Maria and some residential units in the affected building; lower-level rooms are not usable until technical inspections and roof restoration are completed. Gas, water, and electricity have been restored, including in the Morgnaga hamlet. In Toscolano Maderno, Parco Bernini remains closed after gusts up to 122 km/h uprooted two Lebanese cedars (one about 21 meters tall with a 425 cm trunk circumference), while crews are clearing debris and repairing a water pipeline near Vigole; residents also report damage to roofs, fences, and utilities.
