Search for Missing Teen Resumes in Sirmione With Patrol Boats and Sonar

Search operations for a missing young man resumed at dawn today off the tip of Sirmione, after being suspended on Saturday evening due to bad weather. Alexandru Olaisiu Sorin, a Romanian-born 1997 employee of Sirmione Tours, was seen going underwater on Saturday afternoon after jumping from a boat to help a seven-year-old English child and did not resurface.

The search is coordinated by the Coast Guard Operations Room as part of SAR activities in the area near Sirmione, where depths reach around 52 meters. Six vessels are operating on the surface and will rotate during the day, including Coast Guard boats from the 1st Coast Guard Unit in Salò, the Internal Waters team of the State Police in Peschiera del Garda, and the Naval Operations Section of the Finance Police in Salò. A sonar-equipped motor launch from the Volontari del Garda is scanning the seabed with a sonar system and an ROV, while firefighters’ divers are expected to work later today alongside naval units from Bardolino and Salò; operations continue without interruption.
