Garda Steps Up Night Patrols After Push for Greater Security With Local Merchants

Security in Garda was the focus of a meeting called by the municipality with local shop owners, law enforcement and the Local Police after a series of night-time incidents raised concern in town. Mayor Davide Bendinelli asked participants to share possible responses with those who live and work in the centre. Police said they are willing to intensify checks during the 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. window, within available resources.

Shop owners reported continued concerns about groups lingering and moving around the town centre after venues close. The mayor urged residents and businesses to call 112 in cases of particular seriousness and, when needed, to file formal complaints so authorities can intervene and reconstruct what happened. Local Police commander Erica Franchin also highlighted difficulties in recruiting new officers despite municipal competitions.

The administration is now assessing possible restrictions on opening hours for some activities in the centre, linked to reported disorder and fights in surrounding areas. Bendinelli suggested that merchants form an association to create a stable point of contact for ongoing dialogue with the municipality.
