Civil Valor Medal Request Submitted for Alexandru Olaisiu Sorin

A request for the **Medaglia al Valor Civile** has been submitted for **Alexandru Olaisiu Sorin**, a 29-year-old resident of **Sirmione** who died on **18 July** after saving a seven-year-old boy in difficulty in the waters of **Lake Garda**, near **Giamaica beach**. The proposal was put forward by the **Insieme per Sirmione** council group and firefighter **Michele Prandi**, to start the procedure provided by law, involving the **Prefecture of Brescia** and the **Italian Ministry of the Interior**.

According to reports, Sorin, who worked as a pilot for a boat-rental company, jumped from a boat to reach the child and bring him to safety, but disappeared shortly afterward in a deeper area about **50 meters** away. The municipality also **cancelled a water-safety drill scheduled for 25 July** and announced **a day of civic mourning** for his funeral, with details to be communicated later.
