Lake Garda Checks Net 10 Boaters Fined and One License Revoked
Coast Guard checks on Lake Garda on July 29 and 30, carried out as part of the “Mare e Laghi Sicuri” operation, resulted in 10 administrative fines totaling about €6,000 and the withdrawal of a boating licence. Out of 97 inspections on compliance with navigation rules in ports and lake waters, the most significant case involved a boat operator found in a clear state of alcohol impairment, with a blood alcohol level of 1.21.
Other violations included four cases involving night navigation, two dangerous manoeuvres, two instances of motorboats entering bathing areas reserved for swimmers, and an additional breach of the boating code. Since the operation began on June 15, inspections have covered 1,244 checks on leisure craft and more than 3,100 navigation safety controls across Lake Garda and other major Italian lakes, leading to 222 administrative sanctions overall.
