Wildfires Strike Between Tignale, Idro and Manerba

Wildfires flared up again on August 14 between Tignale, Idro and Manerba del Garda in the Brescia area, where high temperatures and wind are hampering firefighting efforts. In Tignale, in the Coste pinewood near Olzano, night operations were slowed by the lack of flights and the risk of hotspots reigniting; in recent hours another 4.5 hectares were burned, adding to the previously affected 53.60 hectares. Thirty-five volunteer firefighters are on site, alongside regional helicopters and the Fire Brigade.

In Idro, a blaze in difficult terrain between Croce di Perle, Cavacca and the Rio Secco sanctuary was tackled with two helicopters and a Canadair after the flames resumed. Another fire broke out above Manerba. In Lombardy, the high wildfire risk status remains in force, with a ban on open-air fires and on activities that could produce embers or sparks, ahead of Ferragosto.
