Illegal Camping Clampdown Tightens Parking Rules in Costermano
Illegal camping in public parking areas in Costermano sul Garda has been banned by a new municipal ordinance, effective for the summer season and through October 31. The measure applies in particular to the Parco dell’Amicizia dei Popoli car park, the Campagnola area in Castion, the Via Vacce parking area in Marciaga, and Piazza San Francesco d’Assisi in Albarè. The municipality said the move is aimed at protecting urban decorum, hygiene, waste management, and environmental safety in a hilly and wooded area also exposed to wildfire risk.
Overnight parking by campers remains allowed as long as it complies with the Highway Code. The ban applies when a parking spot is turned into a camping area—for example by setting up tents, awnings, verandas, tables, chairs, umbrellas, wedges or stabilizing feet—or when wastewater is discharged outside authorized systems. Violations carry fines ranging from €25 to €500 and require the area to be cleared immediately.
