Salo: WWII Ordnance Surfaces Again in Lake Garda Waters

An unexploded World War I ordnance was found just a few metres from the shore in Salò, near the cemetery car park on Via Tavine, after beachgoers spotted it on Monday, 17 August. The device, believed to be a grenade, reportedly resurfaced due to water movement and local coastal conditions.

Following the report, Carabinieri activated safety procedures, cleared the affected stretch of beach, and set up a perimeter with restrictions for pedestrians and a ban on vehicle parking. The area will remain closed and guarded until Army engineers determine whether to remove and transport the ordnance to a prepared quarry for controlled detonation or to apply containment measures on site.
