Fire in Tignale Leaves at Least €2.5 Million in Damage
A wildfire in Tignale, in the Coste pine forest, has so far caused an estimated cost of at least **€2.5 million** for the community, according to a provisional assessment updated on the evening of **15 August**. The figure was prepared by **Stefania Baronio** of the AIB (Italian Firefighting Association) for the Comunità Montana Parco Alto Garda Bresciano, together with the directors of firefighting operations.
The estimate includes about **€700,000** for **seven Canadair** aircraft used in **12 missions**, and **€123,000** for the **3,500 minutes** of regional helicopter flight time. On the ground, **120 firefighters** and **290 AIB volunteers** were deployed, with costs estimated at around **€50,000** for volunteers and **€35,000** for the **11** operations directors, plus logistics expenses for radios, fuel, food, and equipment. The environmental damage is calculated on **60 hectares** of burned woodland and amounts to **€1.2 million**, factoring in restoration costs and the loss of ecosystem services such as hydrogeological protection and biodiversity.
