Peschiera names station forecourt after Giuseppe Puntin

Peschiera del Garda has dedicated the station square to Giuseppe Puntin, the long-time CEO of Ospedale Pederzoli who died in March 2025 at the age of 84. The ceremony took place on Sunday, 23 August, at the same location where the hospital’s first two wards were originally built, with his family, local residents, representatives of Pederzoli, and regional authorities in attendance.

Puntin joined the Pederzoli as an employee and later became its chief executive, shaping the hospital’s role over more than half a century. Known in the city as “the accountant,” he helped drive the facility’s growth starting from the original nucleus established near the station area. Attendees included MEP Paolo Borchia and mayors from the surrounding area—Daniele Bertasi (Bardolino) and Davide Sandrini (Castelnuovo del Garda)—as well as Lazise councillor Enrico Olivieri and provincial councillor Erica Vianini.

Mayor Orietta Gaiulli said the naming was a duty toward a figure who “changed the face of our city and of healthcare,” highlighting Puntin’s attention to people during difficult moments and his ability to anticipate changes while engaging on health and social issues. The municipality coordinated the decision with Puntin’s family and kept it confidential until the ceremony held on 23 August 2026.
