Workshop on Olive Fly Targets Gargnano Growers

A technical workshop on the olive fly (Bactrocera oleae) will be held on Saturday, 29 August, in Gargnano at the Sala Civica Castellani (Via del Teatro 14). The event is organized by the Comunità Montana Parco Alto Garda Bresciano as part of its strategic programme for olive growing, aiming to help producers identify and manage one of the main olive pests, whose spread is supported by higher temperatures and milder winters.

Registration opens at 8:00. The morning will include a theoretical session covering morphology, biological cycle, damage, intervention thresholds, and both conventional and biological control strategies. From 9:30 to 11:00, participants will move outdoors for hands-on training on monitoring and sampling methods, trap use, sting identification, development stage recognition, and calculating active infestation; the speakers are AIPOL technicians, moderated by staff from the Community’s Agriculture Office.
