The Rione 2 Giugno district in Riva del Garda is the focus of initiatives promoted by the MAG, including the exhibition “Baricentri. Identità urbane dei quartieri 2 Giugno e Degasperi” and events scheduled for the week.
The “Baricentri” exhibition, presented last Friday at the MAG with its accompanying catalogue, tells the story of two Riva del Garda neighbourhoods as places for community life and social gathering, using photography to show views, architecture, shared spaces, memories and contradictions of 2 Giugno and Degasperi. Among those who reconstructed the history is Ivana Franceschi, author of two volumes on Rioni in Riva; in the book on Rione 2 Giugno, the testimony of Enrico Floriani describes the transformation from agricultural land into the first homes. Floriani recalls that the first house was built in 1973, with further interventions in 1976 and in subsequent years, and that he continued working the land until 1988 after leaving his role as sharecropper and tenant; the account also mentions a damaging earthquake and the decision to stay in Riva del Garda, as well as the purchase of the home from the bishop of Trento.
Upcoming MAG events include a guided visit on Friday 18 September at 16:00, “Visitate il Garda: la storia di come il lago è diventato una destinazione turistica”, included in the museum ticket with no booking required. On Saturday 19 September from 14:00 to 17:00, “Piccoli fotografi, grande magia!” will take place at Luogo Comune in via Italo Marchi for children aged 7 to 12 accompanied by parents; it is free of charge, subject to registration via segreteria@ilfotogramma.org or 3290846953 (available 14:00 to 17:00), and participants should bring a pencil, a ruler and a pair of scissors with rounded tips. On Sunday 20 September at 10:30, “Museo nella città: Riva Romana” led by Silvia Delugan will start from the MAG’s archaeological section and continue through the historic centre near the area where a Roman settlement stood more than 2,000 years ago, including the Terme Romane in Piazza della Costituzione; it costs 3 euro plus the museum entry ticket and does not require booking.
