The eighth edition of the Meeting SAF Rescue Wild Water in Valeggio will take place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September, from 9:00 to 18:00, in Borghetto sul Mincio. Civil Protection teams from five regions – Veneto, Lombardia, Emilia-Romagna, Toscana and Lazio – will meet in the area next to the wooden bridge for two days of training, skills development and technical updates carried out directly in the river. The event is organised by the Valeggio sul Mincio municipal Civil Protection group, in collaboration with the Centro Formazione Nazionale Rescue Wild Water of Onda Selvaggia.
Specialist training in river environments is considered essential for responding to emergencies linked to flooding, which are increasingly frequent in the country. The meeting has grown since 2018 into a regional and national reference point, bringing together operators to develop a shared approach and coordinated intervention protocols aimed at ensuring rapid and safe responses. The Valeggio group, founded in 2010, has two specialist units: the Nucleo Bonifica Ambientale for severe weather and flooding, and the SAF team active since 2011, described as rare within Italy’s Civil Protection landscape for its expertise in river environments.
