In Peschiera del Garda, the local police have published the results of their activity carried out from 1 May to 17 September, the period of highest tourist and traffic pressure of the year. The report includes 1,600 violations of the Highway Code, 830 vehicles checked, 220 on-foot patrol services in the historic centre, 45 administrative reports and 15 reported accidents.
The figures were presented by Riccardo Lanzi, deputy commissioner of the Peschiera del Garda local police since last May. Born in 1999, Lanzi previously worked as a local police officer in a municipality in Mantua province, served as an officer at the Cremona command and later as commander in Gonzaga, in the province of Mantua.
Mayor Orietta Gaiulli highlighted the contribution of the new deputy commissioner and the wider local police unit to area policing, managing outdoor seating and monitoring parking. She said Peschiera del Garda welcomes around 2.5 million tourists each year and that the local police presence must ensure a sense of security for both residents and visitors. Lanzi said the summer was demanding but productive, pointing to the 220 on-foot services that helped maintain a visible presence in the historic centre during months marked by particular traffic difficulties. The activity will continue after the end of summer, including plans to support policing with a private security service, with a focus on the historic centre and the beaches, especially at night, according to councillor for security Anita Invidia.
