This morning at around 10:20, the Alpine Rescue service in Verona was called out for an hiker who suffered a sudden illness on the summit of Cima Valdritta, the ridge separating Veneto and Trentino. The Verona Emergencies helicopter reached the site before the clouds closed in, landing a medical team and the helicopter technician to carry out resuscitation procedures. The doctor confirmed the man had died; he had been hiking with three friends. The body was recovered by the air ambulance and taken to Malcesine.
For the hiker’s companions, who began the return trip toward Novezza, a team from the Alpine Rescue of Ala met them and escorted them to their car.
