Doors will open at the restoration site of the former Caserma La Rocca in Peschiera del Garda on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September 2026, as part of the Giornate Europee del Patrimonio 2026 (European Heritage Days). The Comune di Peschiera del Garda, in collaboration with the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio di Verona, will host free guided tours of the historic Austro-Hungarian military structure in Piazza Ferdinando di Savoia, within the Fortezza di Peschiera del Garda, which has been a UNESCO site since 2017.
The Caserma La Rocca complex preserves layers of history, including the remains of the ancient Scaliger castle in the Rocchetta section. Part of the site will also make room for a future civic museum, funded with regional resources. According to Mayor Orietta Gaiulli, the project will recover an important heritage and return spaces that had remained closed for centuries, highlighting how the history of Peschiera can be read from the Scaliger castle through Venetian and Austro-Hungarian presence.
Guided visits will last about 45 minutes and are free, but require mandatory booking until places run out, with a maximum of 30 participants per time slot. Sessions are scheduled for Saturday morning (9.30–10.15, 10.15–11.00, 11.00–11.45, 11.45–12.30), Saturday afternoon (16.30–17.15, 17.15–18.00, 18.00–18.45, 18.45–19.30) and Sunday morning (9.30–10.15, 10.15–11.00, 11.00–11.45, 11.45–12.30). The meeting point is in Piazza Ferdinando di Savoia near the Roman remains of Arilica, beside the church of San Martino, with participants asked to arrive at least 10 minutes early; bookings are made online via Eventbrite, and cancellations are recommended if attendance becomes impossible.
