Gargnano state of emergency: bad weather hits the area

The bad weather has severely affected Gargnano and the Alto Garda region, prompting the Government to declare a state of emergency lasting one year for the Brescia Garda area, as well as for the provinces of Bergamo and Lecco. This decision was made following a proposal from the Minister for Civil Protection and Maritime Policies, Nello Musumeci, due to the significant disruptions caused by the storm that hit the area between September 8 and 12. The most impacted municipalities, such as Gargnano, Valvestino, and Magasa, experienced significant landslides that resulted in the closure of Provincial Road 9, partially isolating some communities.

To address the aftermath of the bad weather, the Province of Brescia has already initiated the necessary procedures to restore road access, with plans for a one-way alternate reopening in the coming weeks. On a national level, the Government has allocated 2.8 million euros from the National Emergency Fund to support interventions in the affected areas. Additionally, the Lombardy Region has earmarked 360,000 euros for the municipality of Gargnano to combat the expected hydrogeological instability in the 2025 budget.
