An important construction project is underway in the historic olive grove of Barbarano, located in Salò. The area, situated downhill from the Gardesana state road, will see the construction of a villa at the upper part of the lot, away from the lake. The existing olive trees have been uprooted and will be replanted at the end of the works, along with a significant number of new olive trees and cypress trees to preserve the local landscape characteristics. This project has raised concerns among residents regarding the loss of the last stretch of olive grove by the lake.
The urban planning assessor, Tommaso Cigognetti, stated that the intervention is in compliance with the current Territorial Government Plan (PGT), approved by the previous administration. Despite criticism regarding the environmental impact, Cigognetti emphasized the importance of restoring the historic olive grove and respecting the landscape context, assuring that the new villa will be shielded by a green barrier to limit its visibility from the road.
