On Sunday, February 16, 2025, at 9:00 PM, the stage in Castiglione delle Stiviere will host “Trilogia di un Visionario,” a work that highlights the art and writing of Luigi Pirandello. This performance, directed and interpreted by Michele Placido, offers a unique encounter with the anxieties of the Sicilian author through three distinct works, united in an original dramaturgy.

The Trilogy of a Visionary

Michele Placido engages with the Pirandellian universe by presenting a selection of texts that vary in form and period. The first element of the trilogy is represented by the Letters to Marta, a collection of correspondence addressed to the actress Marta Abba between 1925 and 1936. These fragments reveal the intimacy and vulnerabilities of the great author, offering a glimpse into his emotional world.

Next is The Man with the Flower in His Mouth, a one-act play from 1923 that tackles the theme of death through a profound and poetic stream of consciousness. Finally, the short story The Wheelbarrow, written in 1917, provides a sharp view of the paradoxes of human life, blending contrasting emotions with a lucid madness.

The project also benefits from the collaboration of young playwright Giulia Bartolini, a student at the “Silvio D’Amico” Academy of Dramatic Arts, who brings new perspectives to Placido’s work. “The question remains, even today, what is the Self?” Bartolini states, emphasizing how Pirandellian characters can resonate with contemporary issues.

Sunday Theatre Review: Prose for the Family

Following this, on February 23, 2025, at 5:00 PM, the performance “The Princess and the Pea” will take place, organized by the TEATRO PROVA company with Chiara Masseroli and Francesca Poliani under the direction of Stefano Facciotti. This story invites young audiences to explore their imagination through fun adventures and a variety of characters.

In this fairy tale, a young girl named Gaia arrives at the castle in search of a unique gem to prove her nobility. The play plays on the diversity of characters—male and female, young and old—raising questions about interpersonal relationships and the importance of differences in forming meaningful connections.

TEATRO PROVA has been active since 1983 and is recognized for its productions dedicated to children and families; it also promotes theatrical courses aimed at various age groups.
