A hearing in the Court of Assizes took place in Sirmione to discuss the family murder of Nerina Fontana, which occurred on September 15, 2023. Ruben Andreoli, accused of murdering his mother, gave a one-hour testimony in which he expressed “disgust” and shame for his actions. The president of the court, Roberto Spanò, invited Andreoli to share his emotions, prompting him to reflect on the deteriorating relationship with his mother, which reportedly began after a trip to Ukraine. During his deposition, Andreoli mentioned traumatic events in his life, such as the deaths of his father and son, highlighting a growing familial tension.
Defense attorney Marco Capra argued that the motive was not financial and sought to affirm the credibility of Andreoli’s statements. The latter also claimed to not remember crucial details of the incident and attributed part of the responsibility to a lack of maternal support during difficult times. The hearing concluded with reflections on domestic violence and a postponement for further hearings on the case.
