Castiglione delle Stiviere has recently signed an agreement with the Padano Forestry Consortium for the protection of biodiversity in the area. The municipality has decided to entrust the consortium with the maintenance and restoration of the trails in the “Valle” oasis and the surrounding areas, between Monte Merlo and the Wetland Zone. In exchange for waiving the annual contribution for the irrigation fees of the managed lands, the Consortium will commit to ensuring the upkeep of these areas, aiming to preserve biodiversity and promote sustainable tourism.
This oasis, recognized by the European Commission in 2017 as a site of Community Importance, is home to 39 bird species and 46 significant plant and animal species, including oak forests and marshy areas. The municipal administration aims to protect this valuable natural heritage to revitalize activities related to sustainable tourism. The “Valle” oasis, which spans approximately 40 hectares, represents the largest wetland area in the municipality and is an integral part of the Local Park of Supramunicipal Interest “Morenic Complex of Castiglione delle Stiviere.”
